Urban Traces: Graffiti, Decay, and Design as Dialogue

Date: April 26th

Time: 12 pm

Theme: Repercussions

This workshop offers an intimate exploration into how urban decay and graffiti critique and influence city planning. It aims to provide participants with an understanding of how these urban traces can serve as a medium for reflecting societal impacts on cityscapes and inspire sustainable, inclusive urban development. Through personal experiences, guided tours, and hands-on activities, the facilitators will guide participants through the narratives embedded in the urban environment, and encourage them to use art and design as tools for societal reflection and change.

The workshop will begin with a walking tour to observe and discuss local urban features and will be followed by a collaborative design session focused on creating interventions inspired by these observations. Mitch will lead a graffiti art session, teaching techniques and message conveyance, while Teague will focus on integrating urban decay aesthetics into 3D environmental designs. The workshop will end with a round-table discussion for feedback and reflection, emphasizing the role of designers and artists in shaping urban futures. This unique setting promises a deep dive into the intersection of art, design, and urban planning, equipping participants with the insights and skills to contribute to more thoughtful and resilient urban spaces.
