Design can be empowering as much as it can rob us of our agency. When it does the latter, however, it does so covertly. In this roundtable discussion, participants will learn different methods for spotting the subtle ways in which their agency is being denied or challenged. These analytical methods vary depending on whether they address virtual spaces or the built environment, but share much common ground. Participants will first be presented with frameworks and tools to better observe power dynamics, and will then look at examples ranging from UX design to urban planning, which will open the floor for discussion.
